Just came across this and thought it was interesting:

"I was reading an article in the New Yorker about Marie Antoinette (the article is called "Dressed for Excess" by Judith Thurman), and came across a great description of Generation X, just as a throwaway line.

She was discussing the new Sofia Coppola (a Gen Xer) movie about Marie Antoinette, and said Sofia usually makes movies about women "who belong to a generation too cynical to unite in rebellion and too cool to unite in conformity."
